Friday, February 11th marked my first live show of 2022, and my concert season could not have started off better thanks to Nashville-based indie-alternative rock group, Moon Taxi.
The band is no stranger to the Tennessee area, and the city of Knoxville welcomed their return with open arms. Set for a two-night performance at The Mill and Mine venue, this was sure to be a phenomenal show for everyone.
I’ve attended a few shows at The Mill and Mine, but this by far felt the most intimate. Every time I’d acknowledge my surroundings, the floor became more and more occupied with music lovers ready for a good time. The weather was calm and beautiful which allowed the venue to open and extend its floor space to the outdoor lounge area. Once 8 o’clock rolled around, Knoxville-native group, Connor Kelly & The Time Warp, took the stage and ignited the night with an exceptional opening set that had fans engaged and ready for more.
The vibes in the room were already immaculate, but once Moon Taxi took the stage, the crowd erupted and it truly felt like, well, a party. With a whopping 15-song setlist, the band made sure to cover all the fan favorites, including “Red Hot Lights,” “Hometown Heroes,” “River Water,” and “Change.” Not only was their live lyrical performance impressive, their instrumental jam sessions blew me away. Drummer Tyler Ritter even got his own several-minute-long solo as the rest of the band prepared to close out the show with “Morocco” and “Two High.” These songs pleased the crowd immensely and at times, the fans were louder than the band. And just when we thought it was over, the people demanded more, and Moon Taxi delivered. An encore including “Live For It” and “Good As Gold” officially ended one of the most exciting concerts I’ve ever experienced.
