Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Perfume Genius Electrify Marymoor Park in Seattle

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs with support from Perfume Genius took the stage at a sold-out Marymoor Park in Redmond, electrifying fans that have been waiting for ten years to see them take the stage once again. The energy was palpable as Karen O’s signature screeches filled the open-air venue while Perfume Genius dazzled with his unique blend of indie pop and electronic sounds. From the moment the two bands took the stage, it was clear that this was going to be an unforgettable evening.

Perfume Genius opened the night with “Your Body Changes Everything” and a roar of enthusiasm from this Seattle crowd. The singer-songwriter, Mike Hadreas, is a Seattle-based musician who has been praised for his live performances, which are often intimate and emotional. Hadreas wore a cropped white t-shirt and jeans and at one point wrapped himself in a bundle of gray gauze fabric which brought a hauntingly beautiful energy to the stage. His setlist spanned across all of his albums, including new songs from his most recent release, No Shape. Perfume Genius’ vulnerability was both moving and magnetic; captivating the crowd with his emotive vocals and powerful stage presence.

It was then time for The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to take the stage. The band came out first with waves to the crowd, big smiles, and high anticipation as they played the intro to “Spitting Off the Edge of the World”. Karen O then made her entrance wearing an incredible rainbow-colored jumper over black leather trousers and a flowy blouse with an atomic-style headpiece. Perfume Genius joined the band on stage for the opening song and O captivated the crowd with her iconic water spit spray.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The band consists of vocalist and pianist Karen O, guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. The band sounded tight and energetic throughout their entire performance, which lasted just over an hour. Mid-set the mood amplified immensely when the crew sent two very large inflatable eyeballs out into the crowd during “Zero.

Karen O’s stage presence was a force to be reckoned with as she belted out songs like “Sacrilege” and “Gold Lion.” The band sounded tight and polished, despite not having toured together in ten years.  All members were in top form, tearing through hits like “Maps” and “Heads Will Roll” with ferocious energy and closing out the night with three incredible encores including the final song of the night, “Date.

It was a truly unforgettable experience to see two of independent music’s most exciting acts sharing the stage.  By the end of the night, both bands had left everything on the stage, providing fans with a truly unforgettable experience. It’s safe to say that these two acts are at the top of their game right now and it will be exciting to see what comes next.
