Los Angeles-based grunge trio Return to Dust have released their single “Belly Up“, produced by Jim Kaufman, along with the announcement of their new EP “The Black Road” set for release on July 28th.
“Belly Up” sounds as though it arrived directly from the 90’s, with it being reminiscent of 90’s grunge band Alice in Chains. Co-vocalist Matty Joseph described Belly Up as a “synopsis of our music taste”, with a 70’s chorus, 90’s rock riff and a Gorillaz-like vocal flow. These influences can be heard throughout, creating a classic sound with modern elements.
The song is a comforting reminder that you’re not alone in your struggles, with Matty further stating on the meaning:
“The song is about failure, over and over again, and believing that you’re not worth the life you live. Trust us, those little failures are what shape you into the person you are today, embrace them with open arms. My dad always used to say, when you feel overwhelmed, lay belly up and let things pass.”
“Belly Up“ is the second single released from Return to Dust’s forthcoming debut EP “The Black Road“, out July 23rd. Keep up with the Return to Dust online!
