Bastille Live at the Met Philadelphia on June 15th, 2022

Bastille’s Give Me the Future tour rolled through Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday.  The English pop band released their fourth studio album Give Me the Future earlier this year and are at the end of their US Spring/Summer tour.

The Met Philadelphia is a lively concert hall that is nestled right in the middle of Center City.  This was my first time seeing Bastille after being a fan for years, so I was just as excited as everyone else buzzing about the venue.

Josh Fudge

Josh Fudge kicked the night off with some mellow 70s inspired vibes that won the crowd over almost immediately.  Right off the bat, his enthusiastic and colorful demeanor set the tone for the rest of the show.

Bastille

Bastille hit the stage just after 9pm.  They opened with Stay Awake? and then went right into the title track of the new album Give me the FutureThings We Lost in the Fire was a welcomed throwback as the third song in.

Bastille consists of Dan Smith on vocals, Chris “Woody” Wood on drums, Kyle Simmons on keys, and Will Farquason on bass and guitar.  The band also has two other touring members; Bim on backing vocals and Charlie Barnes on guitar.  They had an elaborate and dynamic stage setup. A large LED screen sat along the back wall and multiple platforms for the members to stand on were scattered around the stage.   Dan also played some additional percussions throughout the set.

The thing that makes a Bastille concert so memorable is just how much of a dance party the show feels like.  During one of Bastille’s most popular songs, Happier, Dan came out into the crowd and sang to us–just before stopping to dance with the fans around him during the climax of the song. It was a fun and unexpected surprise. Strangers and groups of friends alike danced and sang with each other.  Each song garnered more crowd participation than the last. Even those up in the box seats were dancing and jumping enough to get Dan’s attention. One of the highlights of the show was no doubt their performance of Pompeii just before the encore.  The audience was singing just as loud as Dan and the ground practically shook as thousands of people jumped up and down.

Bastille just wrapped up this leg of the Give Me the Future tour. You can see additional tour dates here, and be sure to keep up with them on Instagram and Facebook
