Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind is made up of members Stephan Jenkins (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Brad Hargreaves (Drums), Kryz Reid (Guitar), Colin Creev (Keyboard, Guitar), and Alex LeCavalier (Bass Guitar). The band from San Francisco, California has been putting out pop and alt rock for over 25 years now.

Upon my arrival to the venue I thought for a minute I was attending a football game as fans came out early to tailgate before the show. Grills were sizzling, cornholes were thumping, and drinks were being drunk. Everything was set for an awesome night of music. I was so excited to finally photograph at a venue I’ve been attending for years. If you’re not familiar with Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, it is located in Nassau County, New York at Jones Beach State Park. The venue is pretty unique compared to most amphitheaters as the stage sits right on the water providing fans with a picture worthy view.

For this tour it would be my first time getting to photograph each of the bands on the lineup along with seeing Third Eye Blind live. For this tour Third Eye Blind has brought out with them the bands Taking Back Sunday and Hockey Dad. Taking Back Sunday is based from Long Island, New York so for them this was their hometown show they’ve been really looking forward to.

The phrase, “Good music doesn’t have an expiration date” couldn’t be any truer when talking about Third Eye Blind. The band put out their debut album back in 1997, the same year I was born. I couldn’t wait to hear Semi-Charmed Life and Jumper which were both as old as I. Third Eye Blind busted out a 25 song setlist including a cover of Joy Division’s, “Disorder”. As much as I enjoyed the show I don’t think my excitement could compare to the one older gentleman I watched near the soundboard. Security couldn’t contain him to his section as he would embrace security, photographers, and other concert goers with a hug followed by him continuing to dance to the performance of Third Eye Blind. You love to see people just having a good time enjoying live music. Even the security seemed to get a little kick out of it.
