A Day to Remember left a lasting impression on Tennessee fans last Thursday night.
New and old fans of ADTR, Beartooth and Bad Omens endured torrential rainfall while waiting outside the gorgeous Neoclassical architecture style Soldiers and Sailors auditorium this past Thursday. But each act made sure to make it up to the patient crowd by gifting them with a night they will not soon forget. This wasn’t my first time seeing any of the bands on the tour line up, so I knew we were all about to be in for a memorable night.
The first support act of the night, Bad Omens, may be the newest band on the line up but don’t let that fool you, their stage presence is absolutely memorizing. I have seen these guys four times now and they never cease to amaze me. From Noah’s haunting vocals, to Nicholas and Jolly’s impressive guitar shreds and Nick’s percussion perfection, you will find yourself entranced by their every move. Before they even took the stage, fans screams were near deafening. But as they open with their title track, “The Death of Peace of Mind“, Noah Sebastion’s vocals echo throughout the auditorium bringing the crowds screams to an eerie hush. After a breathtaking 40-minute set they close with their fan favorite “Dethrone” and the crowds screams and applause reach ear piercing decibels.
Direct support for the tour, Beartooth was up next and their set is always a sight to behold. Sporting their new “Riptide” aesthetic they opened with “The Lines” from their album Disgusting. The whole bands energy is unmatched, from the moment they took the stage to the end of their set the crowd was untamable. Vocalist Caleb Shomo surveyed every square inch of the stage as he interacted with fans, even taking a moment to deliver a finely crafted motivational speech to concert goers. Fans continue to match the bands vibes and ‘headbanged ’til their heads rot’, even inciting a mosh pit within the seated venue. As they end with the ever so fitting “Last Riff” Shomo dives off stage and swiftly makes his way through the audience for a few last guitar shreds amidst adoring fans.
Last but certainly not least it was time for post hardcore heavy weights, A Day to Remember to take the stage. As a black curtain donning the letters ADTR rises, frontman McKinnon utters the words, “Chattanooga, sing it if you know it” and the crowd becomes unhinged while they scream along to “The Downfall of Us All“. The Florida born band has been touring for nearly 20 years so it should come as absolutely no surprise that they know what they’re doing. Every moment of their set was immaculately calculated. From their impeccable stage presence and interactions with the audience to their lighting and graphics, not a single detail was overlooked. In true ADTR fashion, the night included interactive props such as beach balls and toilet paper, that were tossed about the auditorium for the remainder of the evening. The Just Some Shows- US tour, kicked off right as the band dropped their latest single “Miracle” so it was only fitting they live debuted the song for the Tennessee crowd who thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the new track. But to everyone’s surprise the band bid the Chattanooga audience adieu with a 4-song encore that ended with an explosion of confetti.
