Colony House Lights Up the Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA 3/10/23

Colony House brought their Cannonballers tour to Philadelphia, PA last Friday.  The indie-rock band played a 450-capacity venue the last time they came to Philly, so it was exciting to see them fill the 1,000-cap Theater of Living Arts this time around. Colony House is currently on tour supporting their latest record The Cannonballers.  The album was released on February 3rd, 2023.

The alt-rock trio little image joined Colony House. little image is a three-piece band consisting of Jackson Simmons on vocals and guitar, Brandon Walters on bass, and Troy Bruner on drums.

From the start of their set, little image displayed a type of free-spirited comradery that is hard to come by.  Their energy and banter amongst one another were contagious.  They charmed the crowd almost instantly, and I would happily see them on their next trip to Philadelphia.

little image is set to release their new album, Self Titled, on May 12th.  The trio has recently released several singles off of the record, including BALLET and OUT OF MY MIND.

Colony House

Colony House is possibly music’s best-kept secret.  From their first entrance onto the stage to the very last chord, Colony House brings the charisma and liveliness that most bands wish they had.  The TLA could barely contain them, as the floor literally shook the entire show from the audience jumping and singing.  Everywhere I looked I could see friends and strangers alike singing together.

Colony House is a Franklin, Tennessee-native band consisting of brothers Caleb and Will Chapman on vocals and drums respectively, Parke Cottrell on bass, and Scott Mills on guitar. The band currently has four albums to date, as well as 3 EPs and one live record.

The quartet opened with Landlocked Surf Rock and Would Ya Could Ya and Silhouettes.  Throughout the night Colony House played fan favorites such as Where I’m From, Waiting for My Time to Come, and Julia

During 2:20 Caleb called out to the audience, “Does anyone know how to play this song on the guitar?”. Immediately several people pointed to one person, and Caleb brought him up on stage, but not before confirming, “You do know how to play this, right?” Which garnered a laugh from the crowd.  The fan indeed knew how to play it, and together the five of them rocked out. There was a huge smile on the fan’s face the entire time.  The best part was the crowd response; everyone cheered him on as if we were cheering for a close friend.  At that moment, Philly truly was the city of brotherly love.  It was a sweet moment and a fantastic reminder of how music can bring people together.

The band closed out the night with the title track to their new record, Cannonballers and You Know It from their 2017 album Only The Lonely.

A Colony House concert is certainly not one to miss. Their Cannonballers tour is continuing through April 6th, 2023. If you can catch them on the road, I highly recommend them. You can find tour dates here, and be sure to follow Colony House on Instagram and Facebook.
