Tuesday July 12th, 2022 was a gorgeous summer night for a concert in Fort Wayne, Indiana! The Clyde Theatre was the venue for the night’s show with headliner Theory with special guest Nonpoint.
Upon pulling up to the location, one couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous mid-century modern sign with the venue’s name above the marquee. The old theater was renovated and reopened in 2018 thanks to Sweetwater Sound along with community partners. The venue was given a complete revitalization and it is a beautiful space!
As we approached the building, fans had already formed a long line as they anxiously awaited for the doors to open. We were greeted by smiling faces from security outside and in, will call and bartenders. As we made our way inside, we entered the music hall and found our way down towards the pit. The crowd inside was already decent sized and fans found their spots up close.
Opening things up for the night was the explosive hard rock band Nonpoint. Nonpoint was formed in Florida 25 years ago by vocalist Elias Soriano and drummer Robb Rivera. In addition to Elias and Robb, current band members also include lead guitarist Jaysin Zeilstra, rhythm guitarist Rasheed Thomas, and bassist Adam Woloszyn. The lights went out and the crowd anticipated when Nonpoint would burst onto the stage, which they did with high energy and intensity which did not stop for their entire set! In addition to playing several of their hits such as Bullet with a Name and What a Day, they covered part of Drake’s Back to Back as an intro to Chaos and Earthquakes, which was a fun twist. The band also played a full cover of Phil Collins In the Air Tonight, which definitely was a crowd favorite. Nonpoint is a very fun and interactive band to watch. Their energy is unmatched and if you witness this, you can’t help but feel it! They were perfect to open for Theory!
The Canadian based rock band Theory was the headliner for the evening! Theory was formed in 1999 by lead guitarist/vocalist Tyler Connolly and bassist Dean Back. Additionally, Dave Brenner is on rhythm and lead guitar and Joey Dandeneau is on the drum kit. The band kicked the night off with tracks Lowlife and The Bitch Came Back. Other hits were played such as World Keeps Spinning, Santa Monica, Nothing Can Come Between Us, History of Violence, and Hate My Life. They closed out the night with RX(Medicate) and Bad Girlfriend. At one point, Tyler played the piano and sang the Chris Isaak cover Wicked Game, which slowed the mood down for a moment before diving right back into their set. What was really cool about their show is that in addition to their hits, there were little jam sessions sprinkled throughout the show-it was so awesome! They played little intros of Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places, Van Halen’s Jump, Pantera’s Walk, some Journey and Guns N’ Roses. It just made the entire experience that much more amazing for everyone that attended.
If you were at this show, you definitely were not sitting still from start to finish! Both Nonpoint and Theory were there to entertain and they love their Fort Wayne family!
