Currents Sells Out Philly On Their First Headlining Tour

Currents with support from Like Moths To Flames, Invent Animate and Foreign Hands ended their first headlining tour in Philadelphia

Currents launched their third studio album “The Death We Seek” in early May and with it came their first headlining US tour. I previously photographed Currents at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in 2021 and have been following them since. It’s extraordinary to see growth and this tour sell out nearly every date. They played The Foundry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the final date of their tour.

Foreign Hands

The Delaware metalcore band, Foreign Hands opened up for this lineup. I found myself sprinting up the stairs at The Foundry in Philadelphia as their set started (gotta love city traffic!). They laid into “Tearing Down Your Reality” with viciousness and vocals that make me think of Bryan Garris of Knocked Loose.

Invent Animate

Next up was Texas metalcore crew, Invent Animate. They blasted their set straight out of the water with “Shade Astray” as their first song, a personal favorite. The band has had quite the year doing a short tour with viral giants Bad Omens and will be hitting Australia in late summer with We Came As Romans.

Like Moths To Flames

Direct support for this tour was Like Moths To Flames. The metalcore giants played a mix of classics as well as newer music. Frontman Chris Roetter’s banter is second to none. He easily gets the crowd laughing and moving.

Currents

I remember seeing this tour announcement on Twitter and saying out loud “YES IT’S ABOUT TIME!”. It feels as if it’s been a long time coming to have a Currents headlining tour. I can’t say I’ve been a long-time fan as I first heard of them at Blue Ridge Rock Festival in 2021. I have however been hooked since. It’s nothing short of incredible to see this band grow into what it has in the last couple of years and do this tour, AND sell out nearly every date. The Foundry was packed wall to wall with metalcore fans as they took the stage. Their set began with “The Death We Seek” off of their new album with the same name. The energy from the stage into the room was phenomenal which was no surprise.

That set the tone for the rest of the evening as they blew the roof off of the room. I watched the mosh pit from the back. The fans were going HARD and I wasn’t ready to get taken out! We can’t wait to see what Currents have coming and for them to sell out another headlining tour!
