When you go to a Starset performance, it is not just a concert; it’s an immersive journey into the realms of science fiction and sonic exploration. For the Immersion Tour that kicked off with a sold out date at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, TN- this was more true than ever as the band put on a show complete with massive LED panels the rose high into the air, holograms projected at the front of the stage and the band being dressed in futuristic costumes for the duration. The audience feels like they are part of a dystopian Sci-fi movie as the performance unfolds before them with mini movie vignettes that play in between each song that tells the story of an alternate reality that flawlessly interweaves with the band’s songs. It’s a visual and auditory experience, the likes of which I have never seen. The hologram at the front of the stage that projected throughout the night was impressive and elevated the feeling that you were inside of a movie that was being played out in front of you.
Starset put together this show and tour as a way to close out the current chapter of their story and move into a new one. This tour coincides with the release of their book “A Brief History of the Future” which was scheduled to begin shipping in the midst of this current tour. They played through some of their biggest hits throughout their 2.5 hour set including Manifest, My Demons, Trials and many others. As with most first nights on tours, there were some hiccups when the stage set repeatedly triggered the venue’s fire alarm, but all in all in only added to the experience of the night. Each time the music stopped for the fire alarm, the crowd continued singing along with the song that was playing as the band stood onstage and watched in awe until the stage set regenerated and they picked up right where they left off. I knew that the most devoted fans of the band were in attendance, but seeing the ferocity with which they sang along, even in when the instruments were silent and the lights were dimmed was truly a special experience.
Starset is known for their truly epic stage shows, but this tour takes the cake. They set out to make sure that audience has a truly immersive experience, and this tour delivers that in spades. If you get the chance, make sure to catch this show. You won’t regret it. Buy tickets early, because I expect these shows will sell out more and more.
