AARON C. PORTER – “MY HEART”

The latest release from Knoxville native Aaron Porter is sure to shake off that winter haze and get you moving into spring. A healthy mix of synths, 80s style drums, and a lyrical composition that pulls on your heart (no pun intended) tells the story throughout this song.

The chorus really tells it plainly: “Why do you have to be so easy on my eyes, so hard on my heart?” It’s a great example of the happy accompaniment sad message song that so many of us love to sing out. There’s also a short yet impactful guitar solo played by Porter, complete with harmonies laid on top. As the solo comes down, the layers fade away and the down, harmony-boosted chorus lets the raw emotion come through. It’s the kind of thing that as the instruments all come blasting back in, you look at the rest of the song with that forlorn heartbreak that we all have felt at one time or another.

Overall this song captures an audio image of an earlier time while telling that classic story that we may have heard or seen before but still hits hard every time. There’s a lyric video available on Youtube as well as Aaron’s social pages that enhance that summer boombox feeling you hear even more. As a lover of that now classic 80s sound full of synths and heavy guitars, this song checks all the boxes for me. The lyric pulls you in and tugs on your heartstrings just enough while the poppy sound keeps the smile on your face.

Why do you have to be so easy on my eyes, so hard on my heart? Why do you have to be so far from my side, so near to my heart?
