English singer-songwriter Ruti Olajugbagbe has entered the new year strong with a new acoustic EP. R&B, soul artist brings us four new reimagined classics: Outkast’s Hey Ya, The La’s There She Goes, Lord Huron’s The Night We Met, and Beyonce’s Halo. All four of these selections are upbeat pop songs turned into incredible & heartfelt ballads. Hearing an acoustic version of each song brings raw emotion to the table along with a sense of vulnerability and new meaning to the lyrics. Listeners can listen to a moment of clarity and complete control over the music and tones.
Despite these being covers of popular songs, they share an individual story with fans. Beyonce’s Halo is an already touching song but hearing an acoustic version of it brings out the emotion even more. A personal favorite of this EP is Lord Huron‘s The Night We Met, which is another emotion-filled song that can share many stories and meanings. Hearing a well-written cover of such a heartfelt song can bring tears to some. Ruti continues to focus on emotional storytelling through their musical ability all while exploring a new sound.
The Perch Cover Sessions was released in time for a couple of upcoming shows they will be performing in the UK. They will be taking the stage for their debut headlining tour starting in April. Ruti is visiting some of the biggest UK markets such as Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, and London, which is a sold-out show.
