My Chemical Romance Do It Their Way at The Prudential Center Night Two

My Chemical Romance is Gerard Way (Lead Vocals), Mikey Way (Bass), Frank Iero (Rhythm Guitar), and Ray Toro (Lead Guitar).

My Chemical Romance knew that one sold-out night wasn’t going to be enough for their longly awaited return home. A second sold-out night was needed at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. I’m sure for many of us New Jersians that grew up listening to My Chem, they are like our Bon Jovi. I never got to see My Chemical Romance live prior to their break-up in 2013. To not only see live for the first time but also photograph a band I adored as a child felt very surreal. Opening the night for My Chemical Romance was the bands Homeless Gospel Choir and Midtown.

I can’t remember the last time I went to a show where I was able to hear everyone in the arena singing along to so many songs. There were so many beautiful moments throughout the night. Most notable times were during Welcome to The Black Parade, Teenagers, Famous Last Words, and I’m Not Okay (I Promise). Fans came from all over to attend these shows. In the photo pit, I had the pleasure to meet a photographer that came all the way from Peru. With all the excitement in the crowd, Gerard Way showed how much he cares for the concertgoers as he would ask for everyone to take steps back after songs so people didn’t get crushed or suffocate throughout the night.

My Chemical Romance brought the energy all night matching the crowd. A special moment was when the band would play a song that they hadn’t played the night before, “Skylines and Turnstiles”. The song Gerard Way wrote expresses his feelings after the 9/11 attacks and would become the first in My Chemical Romance’s discography. Playing songs old and new there was one that was not part of the discography.

The band closed out the show with one of the most perfect covers. They performed their rendition of “My Way” by Hoboken, New Jersey’s very own Frank Sinatra. A beautiful touch when you think about it. Both artists are New Jersey icons in their own right. When My Chemical Romance decided to call it quits back in 2013 they were simply “not having fun anymore”. In 2019 they made their longly anticipated return performing at The Shrine in Los Angeles. They then would announce a tour that would get rescheduled twice due to the covid pandemic. Despite all the adversity, My Chemical Romance did it their way, will continue to do it their way, and hopefully do it their way for many more years to come.
