Kimbra Kicks off her “A Reckoning” at The Basement East in Nashville, TN

On February 9th, Kimbra headlined The Basement East in Nashville, Tennessee with support from Tei Shi to give their fans a night that they will never forget!

Tei Shi is a Columbian-Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. Her music is classified as indie pop, alternative R&B, and synth-pop. She has been actively working on her music since 2013.  In December 2022, she released her new single, Grip, as an independent artist. Her songs relate to issues and feelings that we all experience. She wants her fans to find an outlet in dance so that they will feel a release of emotions from her songs. Tei Shi enthralls her audience with her love of dancing and melodies. Tei Shi was a success in this. She had everyone at the Basement East dancing with her while she sang.

Kimbra Lee Johnson, also known as Kimbra, is a New Zealand singer and songwriter. Her music mixes pop with R&B jazz. Around 2 weeks ago, Kimbra released her fourth album, A Reckoning. This is her first release as an independent artist while highlighting her new makeover. Kimbra spoke to her audience about a new era, A Reckoning. Her music is inspired by feelings and emotions of the world and from her personal journey. The music for this album was started during the pandemic, when everyone was dealing with isolation, anger, and rage at what was transpiring in the world around them, along with the disappointments in their personal lives.

Kimbra wants her music to help heal and soothe her listeners while letting them know they are not alone. Kimbra also shared parts of herself with the audience. She talked about how while writing these songs, she did not know they were letters to her future self about different issues and feelings. She expressed this in the song, Replay, telling the audience about how she wants to keep trying to be a better person and to warn the crowd about getting stuck in a loop. She tells the crowd not to be afraid to step out and try. Her song,  Foolish Thinking, evolved from the letter she wrote to her future daughter. In this song, Kimbra warns her future daughter of the mistakes that she has made in life so that her daughter will not have to experience any of it knowing that her daughter will do as she chooses. The song explains that even though she wants to protect her, she knows that her choices and the trials she goes through will give her resilience and make her the person she is destined to be. While performing, Kimbra’s hand movements and raw emotions make her songs come to life. From the way the lighting lit up the stage to the way she interacted with all of her fans, Kimbra put on an amazing show. I am happy that I was able to experience this tour.

Kimbra and Tei Shi make a dynamite duo for this tour. Their energy and emotions leave the audience wanting more. If you get the opportunity to see these rising stars perform, you will not be disappointed! Be sure to check out the other tour dates here!
