Noah Cyrus Sells Out The Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA 10/20/22

Noah Cyrus’ The Hardest Part Tour stopped in Philadelphia, PA on October 20th.  The country-pop singer just released her debut full-length album of the same name and is currently embarking on a North American tour with support from indie-pop singer Gigi. Noah sold out The Theater of Living Arts, an iconic venue nestled in the heart of Philadelphia’s South Street.

Gigi took the stage at 8 pm.  Consisting of just Gigi on vocals/guitar, Aidan Hobbs on keys/saxophone, and Mike Zara on electric guitar, Gigi’s passionate and raw music was the perfect way to kick off the night. She played her newest song “Glue”, as well as other tracks such as “Sometimes (Backwood)” and “The Man”.

Noah’s set began at 9 pm. She was shrouded in warm amber lights as she began the song “Noah (Standing Still)”, an emotionally riveting song that details her very real struggle with mental health. It was a beautiful song and a majestic way to start her set. After that, she went into “Mr. Percocet” and “Unfinished”, both of which are off of her new album “The Hardest Part”.

Noah’s music encompasses her southern roots while also bringing a fresh and indie sound to her songs. Many of her songs are emotional power ballads such as “Lonely” and “My Side of the Bed”. Amongst the slower songs she also played a handful of faster-paced tracks like “I Just Want a Lover” and “Again”, which is a personal favorite. I specifically enjoyed how the live version of “Again” was a bit more rock-influenced than its in-studio counterpart. Another highlight was the powerful rendition of her song “Loretta’s Song”, which is a heartfelt tribute to her grandmother.

I appreciate the diversity in musical styles that Noah exhibits in her music. I’m not the only one, I believe, since the sold-out crowd was people of all ages and genders. Her music speaks to the soul, and while her lyrics are oftentimes filled with pain and heartbreak, the truth spilled from these words is some everyone can relate to.
