Finally! After posting a series of teasers, The Wonder Years have released the first single, “Oldest Daughter,” off their next album. The band has yet to announce a name and release date for the album but that isn’t stopping fans from getting buckled in for the ride. All it took was the name Madelyn to send fans into a frenzy when the teasers referenced back to the one of the bands previous albums, “The Greatest Generation.”
On social media, The Wonder Years had this to say about their forthcoming album, “We love these songs more than we’ve ever loved a collection of our work before & we can’t wait to continue sharing them with you.”
Now I absolutely loved this first single and here’s why. Oldest Daughter sounds like a cross of something you would hear off of The Greatest Generation and Sister Cities. I cant wait to be back in a Wonder Years crowd so I can hear fans singing along to the chorus of this song.
“Madelyn, I don’t think that I’ll see you again.
Madelyn, I love you, but we both know how this ends.
Madelyn, the tide is coming in.”
If the rest of the album is anything like this first single then I think we are in for another certified emotional banger. I like to tell people that The Wonder Years is one of two bands that can make me cry without fail when listening to their music.
