The sister Hazel show was a different kind of experience than I’m normally used to. From the people to the music, to the venue the atmosphere was completely different but in a good way. Band T-Shirts, mosh pits, crowd surfing, and that random person screaming “Hooooo Yeahhhh!!!” In the background is my original setting, even though I love heavy music it was good to branch out to a different genre. Very glad I ran across this great experience. Sister Hazel was nothing short of an amazing show, leaving the crowd of young and older fans with a sense of pure nostalgia by the end of the night.
So, let’s get this review started…. I would like to start by saying the city of Trussville AL truly has done an amazing job at putting together a great outdoor entertainment area called Ferus Pavilion for folks to enjoy a great concert experience. The outside Venue has a big pavilion, multiple restaurants, and a brewery on site with endless entertainment, even cornhole which I thought was Gnarly.
The night started with an opening act Erin Gibney pop-country songwriter out of Nashville, Tn. I was impressed by her performance. This girl puts a lot of heart and soul into her music it shows on stage, and the huge crowd had no problem showing this young lady love after every song. She did a fantastic job to set the mood for the evening.
The headlining band Sister Hazel Took the stage made up of Ken Block, Jeff Beres, Ryan Newell, Drew Cope Land and Mark Trojanowski. Just before they took the stage everyone was grabbing their drinks, packed in elbow to elbow with their phones ready, you could see the anticipation of the crowd, they took the stage and the crowd got rowdy, it was like a slap of nostalgia to the face. I myself was reminded of the good ole days jamming to these hits, from the first song to the last song Sister Hazel had the full attention of their audience with a mix of all their hits, and their stage presence was great, as well as their crowd interaction you could tell they were having just as much fun as their fans.
Later, after the show I decided to read more into these guys, I’ve always heard their music, I just didn’t know much of the background of the band. Upon my reading about them, I found they are a group of guys from Gainesville Fl making their mix of attentive rock since 93’ and still have maintained to keep a large loyal fanbase (Hazelnuts) over the years with multiple albums. Overall, Sister Hazel is a great band for chill vibes and good times, I Highly recommend catching one of their shows.
