Citizen Bring Their “Calling the Dogs” Tour to Brooklyn, NY!

Citizen are hitting the road one more time this year on tour to celebrate their newest album, “Calling The Dogs”. The album was released just this October, making it the band’s sixth LP. The band from Michigan have become a staple to the scene and continue to perform to sold out crowds, including this stop at Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York. I was bummed when I didn’t get a chance to go to the last Citizen tour where they celebrated the 10 year anniversary for their album “Youth”.

Citizen on this tour are joined by Modern Color and Narrow Head. Modern Color is a four-piece rock band from South Bay, California. I missed their set due to the New York City traffic but made sure to give them a listen after the show. If you enjoy listening to bands like Turnover, Turnstile, and Angel Du$t then I would give Modern Color a listen. Narrow Head is a four-piece from Dallas, Texas. Combining both hardcore and metal to give an explosive live performance.

Citizen performed each of their singles from the new album which featured, If You’re Lonely, Hyper Trophy, When I Let You Down, and Can’t Take It Slow. They also played their fan favs like How Does It Feel, The Night I Drove Alone, and Sleep. Citizen continue to be a band I enjoy seeing live as they adapt their sound over the years. The band refuses to be one demential a stick to a single style or sound. Even when vocalist Mat Kerekes knows that some fans may prefer the older style of Citizen, they prioritize making music thats true to them and represents where they are in their lives. I commend them for that, being in an industry where it can become easy for bands to find success with one style or album and try to replicate it over and over again.

For fans of Citizen who may not already be aware, vocalist Mat Kereke’s also has a solo project. He put out his latest album “You Look Like A Stranger” back in April as well as an album back in August of 2022 titled, “Nova”.

Setlist: Hyper Trophy / Jet / If You’re Lonely / Blue Sunday / Lay Low / The Summer / How Does It Feel? / Your Head Got Misplaced / Yellow Love / Stain / Big Mouth / Can’t Take It Slow / The Night I Drove Alone / Dogs / Sleep / When I Let You Down / Death Dance Approximately / I Want to Kill You
