What Is (Taylor’s Version)?

What’s up with (Taylor’s Version)? A lot of people have probably been asking themselves this question for the past year or so. Taylor Swift is one of if not the most famous musicians of our time, and over the past year she has rereleased 2 of her older albums Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version).

Taylor’s old label Big Machine Label Group was sold to Scooter Braun by Scott Brochetta in June of 2019. Braun is one of Taylor’s long lived “enemies’ ‘ as he is Justin Beibers Manager. Taylor had worked with BMLG for nearly 13 years, when her masters got sold she was told “no” when she asked to buy them herself. Over time Taylor continued to fight for her Masters meanwhile Scooter was selling them to a private equity firm called Shamrock Holdings. The firm later reached out to Swift and offered to sell her masters back to her but only if she agreed to not saying anything negative about Scooter, which she obviously denied as it was unfair.

This is when Swift decided she was going to rerecord her masters so that she could own the right to her own work. In February of 2021 Swift announced the date of her first rerecording “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” which included 6 never heard before vault tracks. These are songs that Swift wanted on the original record but was either told no or she was told they weren’t good enough. This caused fans to go absolutely crazy. The Album was released on April 9, 2021. Next on June 18, 2021 Swift announced that her next record that was being released was Red (Taylor’s Version). This album also featured 9 vault tracks making it Taylor’s longest album. The album was set to come out on November 19, 2021 which was later switched to November 12, 2021 as Adele’s newest album was set to release on the 19th as well. In May of 2022 Taylor also released her version of her song “This Love”.

Not many artists are able to re-record their albums at any time. Swift is one of few lucky artists that have been given this opportunity and I’d say she’s definitely using it to its fullest extent. I have personally been a fan of Taylor Swift since 2009 when I was around 4! I’ve grown up with her and watching her get back what’s hers has been such an empowering thing to watch. She’s taught me to fight for what I want and not back down.
