Country duo, BURNLINE, released a hot new single this week titled “Matches” and it’s the first single off their new EP, Matches, set to release on September 23rd.
The Las Vegas based songwriting team of Lauren Davis (Vocals) and Jason Mann (Guitar/Banjo) tell a story of trying to find one’s home and the frustrations that develop during the journey.
Davis wrote the lyrics in between stops during her road trip moving from Seattle to Las Vegas.
The song starts with Mann slowly plucking on his strings with a simple kick drum setting the pace. Davis starts the first verse as the distant sound of a pedal steel guitar cries in the background.
Davis’s voice is warm and inviting and lulls the listener into hearing her story. Once the chorus arrives Davis’s vocals intensify and build in range until the very end of the song. Her tone is bluesy and confident with lyrical stylings that compares to Brandi Carlile and Sera Cahoone.
There’s a beautiful pairing of the pedal steel and banjo as the tempo of the song quickens and ends with a soft hush. Matches is the perfect addition to any road trip mix tape and one anyone could sing along too with the top down on the open road.
