Last week The Pretty Reckless wrapped up the US leg of their Death By Rock And Roll Tour with a string of shows in the southwest, including a stop in San Diego, CA. Hundreds of fans lined the streets of downtown San Diego to get into the always bustling House of Blues. Several fans were dressed up like frontwoman Taylor Momsen, decked out in tall leather boots, black clothes, and long blonde hair.
Right on time at 8pm, Seattle-based musician Ayron Jones opened the show. He and his backing band composed of Matthew Jacquette (Guitar), Bob Lovelace (Bass), and Bobbi Jimmy (Drums) brought tons of energy and charisma to the packed venue. The group’s sound had an eclectic mix of soul, grunge, and rock that created a unique and fun music style. Their stage presence and audience interaction was awesome as well, getting everyone to sing along to Jones’ song “Supercharged” off of his 2021 album, Child Of The State.

The Pretty Reckless, fronted by singer and actress Taylor Momsen, took the stage shortly after 9pm. As the lights dimmed, cheers of excitement came from fans across the venue. They kicked off the night with the title track from Death by Rock and Roll, the band’s latest release and fourth studio album since their formation in 2009. They kept the rock and roll vibes going with “Since You’re Gone” and “Only Love Can Save Me Now.” Early in the set Momsen removed her heavy leather jacket to reveal a short, silky dress as she strutted across the stage with confidence and carefree energy. The audience was singing along to every song both old and new.
The band went on to play fan favorites from their 2010 debut album Light Me Up including “Makes Me Wanna Die” and “Miss Nothing,” though the crowd really got excited when they introduced “Zombie.” Momsen explained that it was the first song they had recorded (but not released) as a band back when she was a young teen.
To set the scene before performing “Going To Hell,” red lights poured in from every angle of the stage. A sea of people raised their “devil horns” hands and shouted along. Momsen then invited everyone to “join The Pretty Reckless for one evening” during “Heaven Knows,” a song with a lot of audience participation in the chorus which the crowd delivered right on cue.
You can catch The Pretty Reckless at upcoming festivals including Louder Than Life 2022 and Aftershock 2022 before they bring the Death By Rock And Roll Tour to the UK & Europe in October.
