On September 21st, 2023, Hatebreed brought their 20 Years of Brutality Tour to Charlotte, NC to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their album, The Rise of Brutality (2003). Alongside them on this stop of the tour were hardcore legends, Terror, Vein.fm, and North Carolina’s very own Filth.
Filth started things off with their extremely aggressive style of ultra-heavy deathcore which the crowd absolutely loved. They brought the energy of the room from zero to one hundred within a matter of minutes. The band was born in Shelby, NC as a side project for David Gantt (guitar), Nathan Pittman (bass), and Dustin Mitchell’s (vocals) main band, InVoker, Filth quickly gained its own momentum with plans to spread their soul-smothering sound across the US. They have definitely accomplished so after touring with bands like InVoker, Vessels, A Legacy Unwritten, and more. I hope they continue to tour in the near future as I’d love to catch these guys again. They put on an amazing show, I highly recommend diving deeper into Filth.
Vein.fm has the absolute most movement out of any band I’ve ever seen live, to call them high-energy would be an understatement. Vein.fm is a hardcore punk band from Boston formed in 2013. They’re known for touring heavily and have performed with artists like Code Orange and Twitching Tongues. The band is comprised of members: Anthony DiDio (vocals), Matt Wood (drums), Jeremy Martin (guitar, vocals), and Jon Lhaubouet (bass, backing vocals). Vein.fm doesn’t waste any time on stage and every member truly puts on a show. If these guys are ever in your area, definitely grab a ticket, in the meantime check them out wherever you stream music.
The crowd was absolutely electrified by the time Terror took the stage. They opened up their set with their heavy-hitting track, Pain Into Power, before instructing the crowd that “The barricade is your enemy, security is your friend. Get up here!”. Moments after this the sea of crowd surfers began to crash down into the pit like a tsunami. Terror is a hardcore punk band from Los Angeles, California formed in 2002. The band has gone through a few line-up changes, all overseen by founding members Scott Vogel (vocalist) and Nick Jett (drums). Its current lineup also features guitarists Martin Stewart and Jordan Posner, as well as bassist Chris Linkovich. Absolutely check out these hardcore legends anytime they’re in your area.

It’d been five years since the last time I saw Hatebreed was back in 2018 at the final Warped Tour in Charlotte, NC, safe to say I was absolutely stoked by the time their set began. Hatebreed has been tearing it up since 1994 after being formed in Bridgeport, CT. They kicked it off with their classic track, Tear It Down, and the crowd surfers from earlier exponentially intensified. I always love the energy Hatebreed brings with them for their shows. Hatebreed has toured with some high-status bands like Slayer, Deftones, Entombed, and Napalm Death over the years. The band consists of Jamey Jasta (vocals), Chris Beattie (bass), Matt Byrne (drums), Frank Novinec (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Wayne Lozinak (lead guitar, backing vocals). Make sure to catch Hatebreed live on their 20 Years of Brutality Tour if any of the remaining few dates are in your area.
