The melodic hardcore five piece Elsewhere is set to release their first full album “I Hope It Haunts You” in just shy of a week on 11/3/23. This will be the third body of work for the group with two previous EPs, “Hopebliss” August 2019 and “A Different Side of Fang” January 2021. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Elsewhere live many times at this point from small hardcore style shows to opening for acts such as Attack Attack and Belmont. Produced by Native Studios , the quality is top notch.
- Painting Over
Beginning with a signature melodic, ambient intro Painting Over quickly lays into the hardcore with a fast pace without losing the ambient layers. From their Facebook post about the song “Painting over is about covering up all of the trauma in your life but realizing that it is still an underlaying portrait of yourself and accepting that will allow you to see yourself more clearly.” - I’ve Lost That Lovely Ceiling
Right away we dive straight into ass beating with this one. I’ve Lost That Lovely Ceiling is a previously released single that I’ve had the pleasure of hearing many times. It’s easily one of my favorites from this band and really makes you just want to throw down and fly kick in a hardcore pit. - I Hope It Haunts You
I love the contract of the heavier guitars and the melodic singing this song has at the start. I really enjoyed the almost “pause” in the middle with soft ambient tones and singing very easily hearing the song title in the lyrics.
In their Facebook post about IHIHY they say about the song, “I Hope It Haunts You” is about losing sight of hope and selfishly wishing that every bad emotion you’ve been forced to feel could be felt by the contributing person and hoping it haunts them forever.” The music video for this song will be released next week along with the album and we can’t wait to see the final product. - At Least A Place To Lie
“Am I enough or just enough to let you down?” Lyrically that hit me HARD. And then the song hit me hard too. - Confide
This one sounds like nothing else on the album. It’s soft, there’s piano. Even in it’s uniqueness the ambient layers that are in every other song on the album still come through here blending this peek of a totally different type of song into the rest of the album. - In the Place Where the Knife Had Been
Another previously released single, I’ve seen this one live. And when I say this is a certified ass beater, I’m serious. Featuring Jesse Benge Bedroom Floor, catching this live is a MUST. You can see the lyric video for this one here. - Sourced From The Seams That You’ve Removed
This song is another one that hit me hard lyrically. “Did solitude grant you a new point of view? Was time away from me all that you needed to breakthrough?” The layers of sound along with cripplingly emotional vocals sets it apart in the best way. The feature of Aaron Mixell of Escape Artist really slams through and sends this track out of the park. - Paper Flowers
The final track on the album and my personal favorite. This one is also a previous released single and I’ve quite literally listened to it more times than I can count at this point. It’s much less hardcore and more melodic. I just adore the guest feature of Nikki Galbraith. The contrast of the different vocals back and forth and then coming together throughout the song is one of the reasons it’s my favorite…I’m such a fan of the hard/soft contrast.
Tyler Krepps, bassist for Elsewhere says, “I know it’s cliche to say, but in my most honest opinion, I HOPE IT HAUNTS YOU, is our best body of work as a band yet. We’ve matured a lot as individuals since our last release and I think this really shows in this album. IHIHY contains the best parts from all our previous work, throws them into a blender and mixes them all together to make a deliciously rich Elsewhere smoothie.”
Overall, the album is emotionally fueled and has a dynamic up beat, hardcore sound that will get even your grandma moving.
