First off, hello! Can you introduce us to you/your band? Who are you? Where are you from?
I am Tanis, Lead Vocalist and songwriter for Lives Lost and I am initially from Hershey, PA, but from the time I was 8 I grew up in a small town called Annville, PA.
What type of music would you classify yourselves as? What’s your sound like?
We have a lot of different stuff going on, BUT you can definitely narrow it down to Rock. We combine Emo, Grunge, Metal, Posthardcore, Punk Rock, and Pop into a neat little package.
Alright, Let’s talk about the new single. Tell me a little bit about it, the name, the concept.
Champagne is a single about betrayal and the souring of a relationship due to fakeness. I am many things, but I will never betray somebody that is close to me. I would die and even possibly kill for the people that I love, and unfortunately sometimes the people I have chosen to love wouldn’t help me over a Puddle. I chose “Champagne” because there’s a scene in an infamous movie where a character says “I’m champagne and you’re shit until the day you die” and that was TOTALLY going to be the whole title, and we had a sample from the movie and everything, but we didn’t want to risk it hindering the song if it blew up.
What was it like to write it?
I wrote this one as one song, preprod it, then went into the studio with Hayden (Calhoun, Darkside Audio and INFM), and it became two distinctly different songs BECAUSE I wrote one part in 4/4 and the rest in 3/4 and I had another idea already in mind for an intro if he hated the current structure when we came into studio, ans he did. The intro riff USED TO BE the chorus, and the chorus was actually the intro BUT needless to say Hayden said “Nah that’s your chorus” immediately after I played him the thought I had. And thusly Champagne was finalized
Now, let’s talk about the video. What’s the concept? Who shot it and what was the process like?
Concept is I am kidnapped on my way home from practice and held by my captors. It’s all meant to symbolize betrayal and feeling stuck with fake friends. We shot it with Lee Fenstamaker AKA SRY aka DIRECTED BY SRY and he did a killer job. We shot band shots first, then the kidnapping/interrogation stuff at night and it went out without a hitch!
