Hannah Collins, (also known as Scene Queen), mixes several genres of music to create her “bimbocore” sound. These genres include pop, rock, metal, and alternative. On April 29, 2022, Scene Queen released her debut EP “Bimbocore” via Hopeless Records. The writers for this EP include Hannah Collins, Ronald Ish, and Zach Jones. Scene Queen is not here just to standby. She is ready to take the scene by storm with lyrics that come for anti-feminists and genre gatekeepers.
As I listened to the EP, tracks two, three, and five really stood out to me: “Pretty in Pink”, “Pink Bubblegum”, and “Pink Rover”.
“Pretty in Pink” talks about the societal pressure that tries to mold us into being a certain way rather than being our true and authentic self. In the song, Collin’s mentions “Well I am not what you’ve made of me”. The lyrics encourage us to break out and not listen to what others have to say about who we are.
“Pink Bubblegum” is about Scene Queen’s fearlessness of stepping into the metal scene, while doing it her way instead of what is “expected” of her. She states “I’m about to pop your music bubble”. This lyric demonstrates her stepping out of the bubble and taking the genre to a new level.
“Pink Rover” mentions the topics of harassment and catcalling. The song is about standing up for yourself and not letting anyone run you down for being a woman. It will leave you with a feeling of empowerment and strength that you can overcome and do anything.
The overall sound and lyrics showcase what Collin’s is all about: inclusivity and being yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed each song on this EP and I cannot wait to see where it takes Scene Queen’s career.
These songs and the rest of Scene Queen’s new EP are available to stream now on Spotify and Apple Music.
