Ed Sheeran has constantly been a powerhouse in the pop world. He is known for such hits as “Shape Of You,” “Perfect,” and “Thinking Out Loud.” The pop star did something completely out of his genre recently and partnered with the British metal act Bring Me The Horizon for a song titled “Bad Habits”.
Yes, you read that correctly. Ed Sheeran and Bring Me The Horizon have a song together. The track “Bad Habits” starts with a very pop-influenced acoustic loop and instantly you feel welcomed by the warm timbre of his voice. Then, out of nowhere, there is a driving guitar strumming pattern that starts to hype you up the second it starts. The chorus hits soon after and you feel the true intensity of the track. The drums are huge and booming, and the chord progression is beyond catchy and heavy. The second verse introduces the BMTH front man, Oli Sykes, and the song develops into a wonderful and huge soundscape.
This is completely out of left-field for both of these artists. It encompasses the key elements of both the pop and metal genres. The track has an amazing breakdown section that closes the song and leaves you as the listener wanting so much more. The melancholy feel of the song is uplifted by incredibly catchy lyrics. I haven’t enjoyed a crossover song in ages, and this one is totally Song Of The Year worthy, and it’s only February. We can only hope that there is more on the horizon from both of these blockbuster artists together. The song is phenomenally written and constructed. It’s an epitaph of a love that has influenced the artist into picking up a few bad habits in their behavior, get it? The production quality is top-notch as well.
The song was mixed and mastered by Dan Lancaster. Be sure to check out “Bad Habits” anywhere you can stream or listen to music.
