Arrows In Action are “Built to Last” in Columbia, SC heat

Arrows in Action brought their tour Built to Last to West Columbia SC on August 6th. This was the band’s first headlining show. The tour followed the release of their debut album, Built to Last. Finding inspiration from 80s electric to alt-pop the band takes their fans on a journey of finding a place in the world after moving to a new state. Arrows in Action brought Honey Revenge and Finish Ticket along for the tour. However, after Finish Ticket experienced van issues Cherie Amour was brought on.

Even though the weather was light rain, fans began to line the sidewalk of New Brookland Tavern. Filling every inch of the venue rather quickly. Heating up the space and to top it off…if you’re from Columbia SC then you already know that rain in the middle of summer only adds to the humidity and heat.

Oh boy, was it a hot night!

The first to take the stage was Cherie Amour. [Formerly known as One Life to Lead.] Vocalist Trey Miller came on stage and kicked up the energy.  Pairing the talent of guitarists Trey Miller and Casey Reid with the rhythmic power of drummer Ronnie Sherman the band was absolutely solid. Mixing genres across the board to bring their own sound to life.

Honey Revenge

There was only a short break before Honey Revenge took the stage. The LA-based duo, vocalist Devin Papadol, and guitarist Donovan Lloyd were prepared to give Columbia one heck of a show. I was slightly nervous about their stage presence due to their limited discography. However, these guys quickly proved that they already know how to command a room! Devin taught the crowd to sing parts of “Miss Me”, had the entire room get low, and to top it off proceeded to have the ENTIRE venue doing a Congo before continuing the set. The room was primed for Arrows In Action.

Arrows In Action

All the way from Gainesville Florida Arrows In Action stormed the stage of New Brookland Tavern and had everyone’s attention. As the trio started off the night with A-side off the album Built To Last the boys had nothing but large smiles plastered on their faces. Drummer Jesse Frimmel, vocalist Victor Viramontes-Pattison, and guitarist Matthew Fowler took the crowd on a high-energy journey before setting up to do an acoustic set. Jesse proceeded to joke about the heat and brought his portable fan with him to the front of the stage. Occasionally giving the front row a nice breeze. During this time the crowd and band connected on a more intimate level. However, that calm energy was short-lived as the boys showed the crowd how to do the ‘viral Tik-Tok’ dance for the single “Head in the Clouds.”

Sailing into the second high-energy part of the set was effortless. Jesse however did not want to return to his little isolation drum set. During “The Credits” the crowd was surprised when singer Devin from Honey Revenge popped up on stage. As the night was coming to a close Victor announced that instead of playing the silly game of leaving and having everyone chant “ENCORE” he would save everyone and play two songs instead.
